The heart and life of Trinidad with its best and worst attributes is Port of Spain. It’s busy, with lots of people milling around, nearly every corner has loud music played and there is always the faint smell of food in the air. But you just got to love it!
The main thoroughfare is Fredrick Street and the streets around are the main shopping area of the capital, - food, clothing, souvenirs etc, nearly everything can be found here. Fredrick Street leads on to Independence Square (which it not a square at all) – with the new Brian Lara Promenade in the middle, at on end the Church of the Immaculate Conception (the Catholic Cathedral) and the other the Cruise Ship Complex.
At the top of Fredrick Street is the Queen’s Park Savannah, a great place to get away from the noise of downtown or during carnival season indulge in the carnival atmosphere.
The closest beaches to Port of Spain are Chaguaramas and Macqueripe (limited facliities) – about 20 minutes away from Port of Spain. [edit text][editors]
