Carthage was the site of the largest Roman city in Tunisia, and the third largest in the Roman Empire as it was situated on the coast; it was founded in 814BC by the Phoenicians.
By AD692 the entire city was destroyed by the Arabs which brought an end to it’s heyday, but has resulted in some wonderful ruins dotted around Carthage. It is a great area to discover and spend the day in the various sited. The main areas are: Byrsa Hill – Musee National De Cartage, Les Ports Puniques, Quartier Magon, Theatre D’Hadrian, Thermes D’antonin and Tophet.
Carthage is also the location of the international airport and is a very pleasant suburb of Tunis. [edit text][editors]
