Bangor is in Gwynedd, North Wales, and may be used an an access point for Snowdonia, the Island of Anglessey or the Lleyn Peninsula.
Just ouside the town are the bridges across the Menai Straits to Anglessey, the ancient base of the Druids before the Romans waded across at low tide and conquered the last major refuge of the Celts in Wales.
Bangor itself is a very pleasing seaside town, somewhat disregarded by tourists on their way to the more ostentatiously beautiful sites of Lleyn or Anglessey.
Two major National Trust attractions close to Bangor are Penrhyn Castle, an interesting fantasy building of the 19th century and Plas Newydd, the Marquis of Anglessey's mansion just over the Menai Bridge. [edit text][editors]
