This was the main entry point from much of England to the Welsh peaks above three thousand feet until rivalled by the coast road. However many still prefer it as the coast road gets so crowded.
Bettws is near where the Llugwy river flows into the Conw(a)y river, both being very beautiful. The road to Capel Curig (and the mainn peaks) passes the well known Swallow Falls and a building called the Ugly House. The latter was built sufficiently in one day for the builder to be allowed by law to complete and live in it. [edit text]  [editors]
