For some villages on the south of the Isle of Mull it’s not easy to do both a travel tip and a destination guide. It’s easy for Bunessan and so it’s a good chance to tell you to look at Lochbuie for a destination guides to a delightful place. Bunessan itself has more than one shop, a restaurant and a pub [confusingly both called The Argyll Arms!]. There’s also a small historical information centre in a portacabin.
The road to the west continues to Fionaphort [various spellings but the OS map has this one] and the ferry to Iona. However some of the best beaches on Mull can be seen by turning left off the main road behind the Argyll Arms [pub] and turning left again towards Uisken [qv].
By taking the road north from Bunessan towards Knockan you get a terrific view of the cliffs of the Ardmeanach peninsula, whilst by taking the road to the south a bit further west past Loch Assopol towards Scoor you can find some more delightful coastal scenery and a scenic ruined church.
