Burnley was one of the major Lancashire cotton towns. Unfortunately for its residents, not only is the age of UK cotton production long past but a number of its more recent projects offering employment have dried up.

However there are features of the town that are well worth seeing. The Leeds-Liverpool canal crosses a main street on an aqueduct that looks exactly like a railway bridge.

At Queen's Mill a steam beam engine can be seen in operation.
