Travel guide to Carbost

Take the A863 form the Sligachan Hotel on the road from Broadford to Portree [you’re on Skye]. Then turn left on the B8009 and you will soon be in Carbost. There are two things that justify being off the mountains. The first is the Talisker Distillery.
Island whisky has generally a peatier taste than those from further east and you will get a drop free at the end of your trip. Don’t imagine that you can buy it cheaply here.
If you continue down the road, you will reach a delightful unspoilt beach; that’s the second thing.
However you needn’t be off the mountains at all. This is the nearest place on this site to Glenbrittle, a Mecca for both climbers and walkers. Coire Lagan is suburb but you will find the erosion of paths is mind boggling. See the warnings about the Cuillin Ridge in the Elgol report, if you are minded to try it – but there are numerous walks to peaks that are possible for mortals. [edit text] [editors]
