Travel guide to Chepstow

Chepstow is just in Wales near to the bridges across the Severn. However the town itself is situated on the river Wye and is at one end of the beautiful [particularly in spring or autumn] section that flows from Monmouth. The most famous and beautiful point on this section contains the ruins of Tintern Abbey – which means unless you are in a hurry, this route should be preferred to the motorway if you are heading north.
Chepstow itself is an attractive town with a very early Norman castle. To have such a large stone built castle only one year after the conquest reflects the importance of the town’s situation. There are a number of other fascinating buildings and Chepstow well merits an overnight stop. [edit text] [editors]
