Travel guide to Chester-le-Street

Chester-le-Street in County Durham dates back to Roman times and was important during the early development of Christianity in northern England. Today it has little of historical interest to show to the visitor but a connoiseur could learn a lot here about the society of a northern town.
Together with Durham City and their surroundings it has 'The Lambton Worm' as its anthem, geographically between Yorkshire's 'Ilkla Moor baht 'at' and Tynesides 'Blaydon Races.' You can hear the song with a true accent on http://ngfl.northumberland.gov.uk/en glish/Lambton/default.htm
Very close is the North of England Open Air Museum at Beamish [http://www.beamish.org.uk/]
