Travel guide to Clitheroe
Clitheroe is a delightful town in Lancashire, sited near to some great country. You can travel west through the Trough of Bowland, where a number of new walks have recently become feasible owing to legislation.
Nearer to Clitheroe is Pendle Hill, about 2000 feet but a prominent feature in any view of the area. The hill is surrounded by idyllic villages such as Barley, Downham and Sabden and an easy car tour from Clitheroe can be used to link them all. The area is famous as that of the Pendle Witches in the 17th century. You may not believe in witchcraft but the trials and punishments are a matter of history. http://www.pendlewitches.c o.uk/content.php?page=books or, if you want a historical novel, try @mist over Pendle by Robert Neill.
Clitheroe's castle is picturesque in spite of its odd pride in having the smallest keep in England. [edit text]  [editors]
