Travel guide to Corran
Car ferries on the mainland of Scotland are almost a thing of the past, except those across the Clyde. Those at Ballachullish, Strome and Kylescu all ran 50 years ago. All have been replaced by bridges, having been quite inadequate for the increased volume of traffic. Yet the Corran Ferry lives and seems to provide a sensible balance between demand and supply. it is not unusual to look from the western side, where you are sitting in peace with quiet roads around you, to an immense wave of traffic plying in both directions between Fort William and Glencoe. This is the way to go from the south for Ardgour, Morvern, Moidart and Ardnamurchan and should be considered as an alternative route to Mallaig.
Then again there is the ferry from Localine to Fishnish in Mull, which may prove a quieter route than Oban to craignure if it'e peace you want. For details of the ferry see the travel tip. [edit text]  [editors]
