Travel guide to Dolwyddelan

Dolwyddelan lies on the A470 between Bettws-a-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog up the lovely Llugwy river. The village itself is not outstanding but it makes a fine, perhaps the best, start for the ascent of Moel Siabod.

To anybody interested in Welsh history, it has to be worth while to take the short walk to Dolwyddelan castle ruins. This, like Dolbadarn Castle at Llanberis, was one of the old Welsh castles (unlike those at Caernarfon, Conwy, Harlech and Beaumaris which were built by English King Edward I to keep the Welsh suppressed.)
