Dorchester, like the County of Dorset, for which it serves as County Town, though far from unknown, is one of England's more restful places. Both are interesting and graceful, rather than magnificent.
When in Dorchester you actually feel history, particularly Roman and Iron Age.
You think of the place described by Thomas Hardy as well, even if he did call it Casterbridge.
However the website below is so good that you are better off heading straight there and looking at the 'attractions' as well as taking the historically based virtual walks.
