Cathedral - octagonal lantern

Ely is in eastern England and is usually not seen by even those overseas visitors who get to nearby Cambridge. This is their loss and a serious one because the cathedral at the small town is one of England's ost striking. There is a most unusual and splendid octagonal tower in the centre.

The Tourist Information Office provides access to the Oliver Cromwell House. Cromwell was Lord Protector (a more plite term for dictator) of England during the brief period without a monarch after Charles I had been rendered headless and Charles II was still in exile. [edit text] [editors]
