Travel guide to Gayle

Gayle is in Wensleydale, Yorkshire, close to Hawes [qv].
Gayle has at least three claims for a visit. The first is that the road from the little village of Hubberholme in Langstrothdale [the top of Wharfedale] to Gayle is the best of the three great links between Wharfedale and Wensleydale.
The second is water-powered Gayle Mill, currently a fine piece of industrial archaeology but yearning to become active again (see travel tip).
The third is the Wensleydale Creamery where the traditional Wensleydale cheese is made [often eaten with Christmas cake in Yorkshire - yum!].
If you wanted to compare the price for buying it at the creamery with that at Hawes market - - - but the creamery is more often open and the demonstration of cheese making is worth the entry money. [edit text] [editors]
