Travel guide to Glencoe

Glencoe has two famous attributes, massacre and beauty. If you don’t know the history of the massacre, you might as well go to the website of the MacDonald Clan which included those slaughtered. www.macdonald.com/glen1.html
The Pass of Glencoe has superb scenery on both sides. As you descend the Buachaille Etive Mor appears on the left, followed shortly by the Three Sisters of Glencoe. These lead to Bidean nam Bian, a mountain with more than its rightful share of fatalities, and are the site of The Lost Valley and of Ossian’s Cave, always obvious in the view.
On the opposite side is one of the two finest ridge walks on the mainland, Aonach Eagach. The Scottish Mountaineering Club has a sign near the start, enjoining those doing the ridge not to attempt descent before reaching the Pap of Glencoe. This is a long and serious ridge, fabulous for its views, but one that ordinary mortals should not treat lightly. [edit text] [editors]
