Travel guide to Glenelg
The Glenelg area had a total population of under 200 in the 2001 census. However there are at least three reasons for going there, and doing so is certainly no hardship. The minor road over the Rattagan pass from the A87 at Shiel bridge is very scenic. Of the three specific reasons, the first applies in summer only; the car ferry to Kylerhea on Skye. It’s not as cheap as going on the [now free] bridge from Kyle to Kyleakin, and it takes longer, but it really feels as though you are going to an island!
The second is the road access to the sea end of Loch Hourn [see Kinlochourn for the head of the loch] and the third covers the brochs. [See Carloway for a general description of brochs]. Dun Telve and Dun Troddan are close together up an [ever so] minor road and are probably the best on the mainland.
