Travel guide to Kinlochbervie

Kinlochbervie is interesting rather than pretty, though in a great location off the A838 SW of Durness. It consists mainly of fishing buildings and a considerable number of boats, not all local, drop off their catch here. The auctions make for an interesting visit.
However, there is something much better to do if you have the energy. Drive on past Kinlochbervie until you reach the end of the unclassified road that leaves the B801 to go through Oldshoremore. You now have a boring 4 mile trudge without any attrction but it will bring you to a terrific beach, Sandwood Bay, hailed on the Undiscovered Scotland site as the best in the UK. Not only is it uncrowded, for obvious reasons, with magnificent sand but there are fabulous sea stacks just off-shore. If you are a real glutton for punishment, you can continue to cape Wrath but it’s a hard walk there and back and I suggest the way described under Durness. [edit text] [editors]
