Travel guide to Kinlochourn
The road to Kinlochourn leaves the A87 Kyle road near Invergarry and passes through some wonderful countryside near lochs until eventually – and it takes a while unless you are a manic driver! – reaching its end at the little village. Loch Hourn is often compared to a Norwegian fjord and reckoned to be one of the finest sea lochs in Scotland. It’s not a long walk to reach the end of the road from Glenelg to Corran on the north side, though a really long drive by car, but remember to count double distance if you are returning.
The path along the south shore is delightful and if you can bear the idea of leaving Barrisdale Bay behind you, it’s one of the routes to the superlative mountain of Ladhar Bheinn [pronounced Larven].
