Cloud 23
A very trendy and posh bar, serving elaborate drinks over the rather dull panorama of Manchester. It is expensive (most drinks are £8 and bottled beer are £4.50 for 0.33l) and reservations are essential if one wants a table by the floor-ro-ceiling window. It is largely popular with late teen couples young at heart, footballers, and professionals at wise age, who do not know where to go. Service is however highly professional and friendly. The chance of geting a table without previous booking is directly related to the price of the shirt you are wearing. The odds do not change even if it is just 10 minutes to closing time. more

Hilton Manchester Deansgate ****
There is nothing wrong with this Hilton hotel. It is new and its tower is an iconic structure in Manchester. All five star hotel amenities are there but the room service. It is allegedly 24 horus, but round the clock menu includes only four items:
1/ carrot and ginger soup,
2/ salad of plum tomato, mozzarella and basil,
3/ rocket salad, and
4/ cheese toastie
Since I arrived about 10pm, I was stuffed. Luckily, the hotel had a list of takeway and delivery outlets that were happy to deliver to the hotel rooms. I ordered 12" pizza and some ice-cream from Kashmiri Spice (halal), who deliver orders over £8 anywhere in Manchester. My bill incl. the above and a can of coke came to £8.50.
The hotel, however has all the usual gym (instructors on site), 20 meter swimming pool, and 'Heaven Spa'. It actually might be Manchester's best hotel with all the facilites - the gym instructors might be the competitive advantage.
Rooms & bathrooms were super clean, and trendy. more

Museum of Science and Industry [MSIM]
Not only an outstanding example of a science and industry museum, it includes the building [in situ] of the Liverpool Road Station, the world's first commercial passenger line. There are power galleries and an underground display of Manchester's water supply and sewerage over the ages.
The old Roman fort is almost adjacent, as is the canal basin where the Rochdale meets the Bridgewater. more
