Penzance is the terminus of trains on the main line into Cornwall from London or Birmingham via Plymouth and the brunel bridge over the Tamar. It is only a few miles by road from Land's End, Lizard Point and Cape Cornwall and there are helicopter trips to the Scilly Islands.
Madron Church, a little north, was the mother church of Penzance and is said to be one of the most interesting of the region's granite churches. Sadly, unlike most others in the area it is often kept locked.
The National Trust owns St Michael's Mount and Trengwainton Gardens, both nearby. English heritage maintained iron age vilages of Chysauster and carn Euny can be easily visited and, of course, many scenc beaches are accessible. [edit text][editors]
