Travel guide to Rye
Camber Sands
Camber Sands
Pretty, little Rye is one of those picture perfect places in England where you want to come back to again and again. One of the Cinque Ports on England's South Coast it's brimming with history and beautiful buildings. Wander along the pebbled streets, of which Mermaid Strret is the most famous, and have a drink in one of the many historic pubs. At one time Rye was a fishing port, but it also served as a smugglers' haven and has also an impressive literary past: Henry James and Joseph Conrad are just two of many writers who pitched their tents here.
Close by are the wide sandy unspoilt beaches of Camber Sands. [edit text]  [editors]
