During the last years of the 20th century the old industry based Salford was ripped apart for the construction of roads and apartment blocks. Before this, and even more now, its image is that of Manchester's poor neighbour. Yet it is one of Lancashire's three cities along with Manchester and Liverpool and has some of the most striking attractions in the neighbourhood of Greater Manchester in the Lowry Centre, a world class art gallery with theatres, restaurant and bars and also a genuine medieval hall near the town centre, Ordsall Hall. There is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Salford and it has its own University. [edit text]  [editors]
