Travel guide to Shieldaig
scottish landscape 2
scottish landscape 2
The road linking Shieldaig with Torridon was not constructed until the 1960s. Since then it has provided the obvious west coast route from England to northwest Scotland. Though considerably slower than taking the A9 to the Kessock Bridge and then cutting across, it appeals to many for its beauty and Shieldaig is an unusually picturesque Scottish village in its own right, where a stop on the way could be most enjoyable. Shieldaig Island is a haven for wildlife, owned by the National Trust for Scotland and covered in Scots pine trees.
Shieldaig also provides a link with Applecross [qv] around the coast, that doesn’t entail going over the Bealach nam Bo. [edit text]  [editors]
