Travel guide to Shipley
Shipley is in the Bradford Metropolitan District and is now joined to Bradford itself. However it includes the model village of Saltaire, created by Sir Titus Salt in the middle of the 19th century. He was a sccessful entrepreneur, Salts Mill [see travel tip] being one of the biggest textile mills in the area. he was also a philanthropist and built the village as a p,easant place for his workers to live, although there is room for doubt as to whether ordinary mill workers could afford to. he wouldn't have a pub within the village.
Some of the mill buildings are now used by Shipley College, which has remained separate from the giant Bradford College, possibly partly because of the terms of the Salts trust. [edit text]  [editors]
