Travel guide to Uig

Uig, Isle of Skye. Scotland.

From Uig, on the west coast of the Trotternish Peninsula, ferries run to North Uist and Harris. A [very minor road runs to the east coast of Trotternish, near to the remarkable rock scenery of the Qiriaing. The Quiriaing doesn’t even reach 1,000 feet in height but enjoys some real peculiarities of rock scenery and takes a bit longer than you might anticipate, if you really want to see the views. You will find ‘The Prison’ and ‘The Needle’ and ‘The Table’, consisting of a grass area almost ike the green on a golf course, surrounded by a sort of horseshoe of rock.
South of where the road runs into the A855 is the Kilt Rock. For those conversant with geology, the rock is a ‘dolerite sill’. More basically, there is vertical folding which is said to resemble the pleats of a kilt. Anyway the view south over the coast and a waterfall is impressive.
