A peaceful English village scene
Upper Arley is one of a number of small hamlets and isolated farms and houses in a picturesque part of the Severn Valley in Worcestershire. Nearby are the areas of Trimpley and Shatterford. There are beautiful gardens in an arboretum which can be accessed from the village and many walking trails available, either along the banks of the River Severn or through the ancient Wyre Forest.

A footbridge leads from the village up a country lane to the train station passing the Harbour Inn on the way, the only remaining pub in Upper Arley. The train station was derelict until the 1970’s when it was restored by volunteers and is now one of the seven stations on the Severn Valley Railway. This is primarily a railway for tourists and enthusiasts running steam hauled trains on a 16 mile route from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and Upper Arley is a popular stopping off point.

Take care not to confuse Upper Arley with Arley which is in Warwickshire about 80km away. [edit text]  [editors]
