Travel guide to Valtos
Valtos is an alternative name for what’s called Bhaltos on an Ordnance Survey map, a tiny village near Uig on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. It has an immediate appeal such that you might wonder whether it was ever considered by those who judge other beaches to be ‘best in Britain’. Of course, if you want the facilities of a coastal resort, you’re a whole lot of miles out of your way – but if beauty, solitude, wonderful sand and a little island just offshore appeal to you, you could be shouting ‘Bingo’.
However the appeal doesn’t end here. Although the archaeological remains here are not as well known as Calllanish or Dun Carloway, they are extremely interesting.
