Windsor and the Royal Borough is dominated by Windsor Castle – one the official royal residences. It is the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world and dates back some 900 years. Its origins began as a fortress to protect London and only became a royal residence owing to the frequency Kings visited the area to hunt in Great Windsor Park.
There are many restaurants, cafes and pubs near to the castle as well as a shopping centre (Windsor Royal Shopping arcade), located in the old railway station. From here (Windsor and Eton Riverside station), you can get connections to Slough and beyond.
As well as the castle there are many other attractions in the area; once the Windsor safari park now houses Legoland, then there is Royal Windsor Racecourse, Eton College, Savill Gardens and the Great Windsor Park.
Also the last two weeks in September is the Windsor Festival and they have erected a 55m wheel that offers wonderful views of the castle and surrounding area. [edit text][editors]
