Savannah travel tips

Hyatt Regency Savannah
When you hear the word "Hyatt", you picture luxury rooms nice staff, and regal amenities. This one might be an exception. When we got there, we were greeted by confusion and chaos. Their "driveway" thing was crowded and stagnant. The valet took our luggage with them so we didn't have luggage. The check-in counter wasn't better. It was understaffed and slow. Our luggage finally arrived an hour late! It does have nice rooms, and we got free breakfast coupons just for complaining. Try this hotel as your last resort. They were setting up for New Year's, that is no excuse. more

Excellent fried chicken and BBQ. This is where the locals eat. more

The Lady and Sons
The BEST Southern Cooking. Reservations are a must, but do not miss eating here. more

The Marshall House Hotel
Great location, with all the Savannah charm. Stay on the second floor for access to the verandah, but beware of the spooky stories that surround this establishment. It was originally used as a civil war hospital and some patients may still roam the corridors. more

Kevin Barry's, Inc.

Historic Savannah Carriage Tours
One of the best haunted Savannah tours is with the Historic Savannah Carriage Tours. You can here vivid ghost stories while riding through Savannah at night. The stories aren't really scary; they're just ghost stories. I went on the last tour of the day, at nine o'clock. You get on the carriage in front of the Hyatt Regency on Bay Street. They serve hot apple cider and oatmeal cookies while you listen to the supposedly historic stories. We had the best storyteller in the world. She was polite. She used her voice to make it sound more interesting. She didn't even make faces when the horses pooped. You need to go on this tour. more

W. G. Shuckers Seafood Restaurant
There motto is "Shuck me, suck me, eat me raw." more

The Eliza Thompson House
A wonderful bed and breakfast. A little bit pricey. more

The Pirate's House
Over 250 years old. Very exclusive. more

William's Seafood Restaurant
Famous for their crab cakes. A Savannah classic. more

Love's Seafood
Made famous in "Forrest Gump". more

Holiday Inn Midtown
Away from the tourist area, so less expensive. more
