The historic town of St. Louis has often been called the "Gateway to the West", since this was the point of origin for the majority of the wagon trains of the 19th century that headed west to colonize the country and expand its borders.

Located on the Mississippi River, the town has a remarkable heritage in music, dining, culture, and many other aspects that appeal to tourists and travelers. Forest Park is the largest public park in the United States. It contains the world-famous zoo, an art gallery, the Missouri Museum of History, two golf courses, numerous walking trails, the famous Jewel Box, and the Municipal Opera (along with picnic tables and other things found in parks). The park was the site of the first World's Fair, in 1904.

Other popular places to visit are the Missouri Botanical Gardens, LaClede's Landing, the Busch Brewery (world's largest), and Busch Stadium (home of the baseball Cardinals). [edit text]  [editors]
