In the 40's and 50's Palm Springs was the exclusive enclave of Hollywood elite - Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and host of other stars and producers had homes here. Much of that luster remains on the carefully preserved Palm Canyon Drive. Small vintage hotels and spas line the way. A main strip is jammed full of boutiques and galleries with a bit of the eclectic (Celtic Kilts or Taste of Bali) thrown in. A recent push to restore the original bugalows gives a brought back that old feel.
Palms Spring's true charm lies in what nature has to offer. Moutains rise abruptly out of the Cochella valley in almost jurasic sharpness. Combine this with the politferation of palms and you almost expect see Fred Flintstone come around the corner. Hike the four original springs - each just minutes from Palm Canyon Drive. Take the tram 8,500 feet up to the top of the ridge and hike trails follwoing the ridgeline. Joshua State Park sits close by, while quad bikes idle nearby ready to jump dunes. [edit text][editors]
