.... now, days later the situation is worse but should improve as the wind has calmed down they say. The fires have been the #1 news item here for many days now.
Half of South Africa where I grew up has is a similar climate and farmers or land owners burn small areas regularly in a controlled way to get rid of dried-up bushes and also pests. With the next rain and season the ash acts as fertilizer and new plants have space to shoot and grow resulting in luscious green fields within a year. I'm sure a rebirth of nature is also due for Greece like that, just sad for so much human death and tragedy.

hiya, thanks - yes I got your instructions, and I will think about it a little more when I get within a day or two of needing to go to Rafina... thing is - I dont want to do a lot of walking with my bags (in the heat), so I dont mind the length of travel time as long as I can be healthy - yeah?!
Im going to Paros for 8 days - really looking forward to it - this is my second trip to Greece.
If u have any other tips for me - let me know -I'll be 3 + 3 days in Athens each side of the Paros part also.
cheers, Yve.

Evelyn
Both photos of Athens contain weather aspects that also happen in Irelan.
I am tending toward the view that only sun filled travel pictures from the narrow subtropical / warm temperate zones North and South are really in the five star running.
Poctures evocative of the many moods o f our home lands struggle. On reflection of course I should not complain - I have four star pictures where the sun is hardly even hinted at but I have no idea how that was judged.
anyway I like you rpicture.
