Located around 11 km from Livingstone in the southernmost edge of Zambia, is the Mosi Oa Tunya National Park. Mosi Oa Tunya is the local name for Victoria Falls meaning ‘the smoke that thunders’.
The NP is split into two distinct areas; firstly the wildlife reserve which is home a variety of animals including: antelopes, baboons, hippos, the only surviving white rhinos in Zambia and the roaming elephants. At the lower levels of the Mighty Zambezi these odd elephants can be seen making their way across the river.
Then the park continues in the other direction until it reaches the falls. On this side the views are spectacular; during the dry season much less water flows however this provides an opportunity to walk through the vegetation all the way down to the ‘boiling point’ or follow the footsteps of the elephants and clamber across the river bed. In the wet season it is the widest curtain of water in the world and it is impossible to view the falls without getting wet. [edit text][editors]
