A tragedy of proportions not yet measurable. My feelings are with all those who are affected. These areas are so dependant on the tourist industry - the best way we can help is to visit when things are going again. --- Rudolf "Rangutan" Graspointner

hii ,
thankz for the sympathy shown towards the poor and victims of this tragedy,i want to share one thing with both of you that ,as far as india is concern there are certain costal areas which are very prone to such natural calamities ,houses are not made to resist such possible danger.now atleast we should lthink in direction of foreseeing the danger and making proper planning in order to minimise the damage

To all the people affected by tsunami ,please accept my sorrow
I can’t even visualize in my own brain this tragedy and how people of all
Ages suffer at the same moment .How , we humans ,still unhelpful in taming
Mather Nature after all with all of this advanced technology .I can’t explain why the
Scientists where not able to predict such a devastating earthquake, only God has
The explanation.
God bless all of you ,the only time will cure this catastrophe.

A dreadful tragedy. I made wonderful friends at mission school in Thailand. One of them has lost a friend in Patang.
Heartfelt sympathy to all those affected.
God bless --- Enjoy it while you can!

I watched the news all afternoon and couldn't believe the devastation that has occurred, affecting so many countries as far reaching as Africa. But my prayers and thoughts are with everyone who is affected by this. --- "So many places, so little time" ((*_*))

If anyone knows of a specific family or mission on the edge of the disaster area that can get items to those in need, please email me. I belong to a small volunteer group here in the US that likes to send gender or item specific care packages. I can't promise anything but I know some areas that got hit with hurricanes over the summer near me in Fla did not see aid for a few days..I bet the same is happening there and I'll see what the group can gather & chance they actually get delivered over there....

I have posted this heartfelt note from me in this appropriate forum topic and also in the forum note in response to Andreas' uncomfortable feelings about lack of warning(s)
I understand that the ASEAN countries had recently rejected the idea of a Tsunami early warning system on (a) cost grounds and (b) it had never happened before in their living memory. To my simple mind it was a crass misjudgement - the cost is peanuts when you are living in one of the world’s largest earthquake zones - i.e. Indonesian archipelago.
I hope the whole world thinks of installing Tsunami early warning systems including Europe and the Mediterranean countries. A Tsunami can, thankfully rarely, happen anywhere at any time! One never knows the day or the time!
I cannot explain how numb and shocked that I feel having submitted so many pictures of Sri Lanka and it’s fishermen in my slide show just last month. I now fear that most of the people in that slide show maybe victims! The three beautiful little boys in my anthropology slide show lived with their rope making parents in a hovel on the beach of Southern Sri Lanka. Words for the first time fail me – only my hopes and prayers survive that a miracle has somehow saved them!
--- Cheers!

I do hope that our GLOBO member "willow" who stayed in Male as far as I know is alright. My deapest sympathy goes to all those people who have been in the affected area or lost a friend/family. Especially those whos existance was build on tourism. I have in Thailand in 2002 and know that their are lots of families where the only income is based on tourists. Especially on small unpopular islands like Kho Lanta next to Kho Phi Phi, there are families who rarily made a living on the few tourists ariving there. What are they going to do now?!
Please do have a look on GLOBO's main page where you can find links to caritas, american red cross and other organisations. All we can do from here is to help those who are in deapest needs at the moment.
