Night Trains?

Chris,
You want to cover a great deal of territory in a short time. Have you considered a Eurarail Pass and taking night trains? It is a great way to get around and make efficient use of time. Night ferries as well. There is a night ferry available from Dover to LeHarve and it is easy to combine with trains on both sides to get London or Paris.
Ireland is stunning - Hugh is your best bet there. Paris shouldn't be missed. Amsterdamn is amazing. You might want to fly into London, hop over to Ireland, hop back to London and head north to catch Scotland - here a night train is definitely doable. Go to Glasgow or Edinbrough and then cross the channel and up to Amsterdamn. Night train down to Berlin and then night train again onto Paris. Some of these trips will require more than 8 or 10 hours but you will see countryside and avoid the cost of lots of internal flights.
Just a couple of things for you to think about! Have a GREAT trip!
