Answering the age-old question of where to find quality Chinese food (not to mention some rather exotic offerings not seen on most domestic Chinese menus) after the bars have closed is Milpitas’ China Palace Restaurant. Located in the Ulfert Center amid a host of other Chinese restaurants and businesses, the exceedingly popular cash-only China Palace is open from 10AM to 3AM seven days a week and has a pretty extensive menu accompanied by colored pictures of the dishes on the wall (unfortunately, most are labeled in Chinese characters only.) It can get very busy during ‘normal’ dinner hours, leaving you standing outside waiting for a table to open up, or your party of two may be paired with a similar party of two strangers at a table for four. Not to worry, as the wait and/or inconvenience is worth it once the food arrives. The menu includes dishes such as crocodile, ostrich and deer meat (but no longer any snake or squirrel, though). Try the stir-fried pea leaves with garlic.
