*Sunday-Only/Cash Only* The Buddhist temple sells vegetarian Vietnamese food for cash donations to support the Buddhist Vietnamese nuns living there. I opted for the Bun Hue (suggested donation: $6), a noodle dish that hails from the old imperial capital of Hue in central Vietnam. Chili paste, soy sauce, a slice of lemon and a mixture of salt and dried chili flakes are provided as condiments with the dish. When I asked the elderly ladies behind the improvised counter for some nuoc mam (Vietnamese fish sauce), they gave me quizzical looks and told me with a slight chuckle that they did not have any, which stuck me as quite odd until the thought came into my mind, “Um, hello…Vegetarian?!!!” The food was quite good, but would have been better with some nuoc mam. The temple setting is very nice.
