I have just heard about this morning's earthquake in Abruzzo near to L'Aquila, which seems to have done much damage to people, houses and medieval buildings. It is a wonderful city that I know well and I am sure we all want to give our thoughts and sympathy. --- Grieve not for that which you cannot do but rejoice in that which you can.

It is a terrible and awful thing what happened to the people over there. The news channels report that over 100,000 inhabitants lost their homes. --- Open your eyes. Free your mind. Touch lives. Sink into the different. Travel and belong.

I've been following the news of the earthquake since yesterday morning and unfortunately every time I switch the tv on or listen to the radio, the news has gotten worse. More people have died, are injured or have lost their home. Now and then a bit of good news, when another survivor has been found, but on the whole, it is just devastating and, despite the pictures and videos, I can't imagine what these people must be going through. Just imagine, you go to bed one night and next thing you know the world as you knew it doesn't exist anymore.
David, I also had another look at your report of L'Aquila and your photos. It is so sad to think that life there won't ever be the same again.

I have also been following the news of the tragic event in Italy and would like to add my condolences to all the other member comments, a very sad time for many people in this area, I wish them all a recovery from this terrible tragedy. --- I am no longer a stranger in a strange land.

I have always avoided politics like the plague here but I gather from the UK press that Many Italian people have not been informed by their press that President Berlusconi resembled the plight of the homeless there to people enjoying a weekend camping holiday. I make no comment but I think our Italian members should know this. --- Grieve not for that which you cannot do but rejoice in that which you can.

David, as you well know, poly is Greek for many, ticks are parasitic blood sucking creatures, therefore the practice of politics by politicians is to be abhorred by all right thinking people, honest and politician are a contradiction in terms. The only honest politician is an extinct entity. My thought are with the Italian people who have lost much. --- I am no longer a stranger in a strange land.

Interesting linguistic analysis, Tony... I like it. Mr Berlusconi has become rather notorious for gaffes, which for a lack of better word are completely idiotic. However, I heard that Madonna was gracious enough to support village, where her family came from, with a donation of $500,000 (I believe). Hopefully, this will touch others and the tragedy will receive more attention and result in additional assistance.
Kindest regards
