The Chartreuse is a limestone massif surrounded by steep cliffs, located north of Grenoble.
It consists of several valleys separated by hills and middle-size mountains. Due to an exceptional rainfall, most of them are covered with forests. All this brings a lot of different landscapes.
Hardly accessible in the past, the massif was chosen by St Bruno to establish the first Carthusian monastery in 1084. Its particular geography has led to a controlled expansion, which allowed it to be made a natural park in 1995. With its typical villages it is a nice place to live and to visit.
Come and see it by yourself!
