Hi there,
I am terribly sorry. There is some bad and good news. Bad news is that I made a terrible mistake while working on the GLOBO database to implement a new feature on camera data. Good news is, there is a backup which is already in place. The backup is from the 2nd of January so it is almost a week old. I am sorry but it looks like the data inbetween is unrecoverable. Will post more info later. Let me just fix the main issues like awards etc.
:-( What a day...
Andy

Hi Andy,
You have all my sympathy. Stay calm and don't get too too upset, you will survive.

dear Andreas, according to Your wise memo You've propably gone too fast and lost control, cheer up , im sure that You'll find the way out - you are a champion, maybe a email to all active members to do again same as they did over last week , including posting new pictures etc?. Ps. about copying camera/photo data would it work if i don't copy EXIF file during minimasing? --- martin7 at redbubble , , , also dobrezyczenia dot com :)

Hello everybody,
oh man I feel so bad about this. I just finished all backup which is possible. Means that the data is back to 2nd January 2007. 6 Days lost :-( I recovered the awards from other log data as well so they are in place again (they had been announced on 3rd of January. Purchased premium accounts after 2nd have also been recovered thanks to log data.
I am afraid, the rest of the data between 2nd and today (8th) is lost.
So what happened? I was working late last night recompiling new server software to make it possible to read exif data out of pictures (like camera model etc). I had to start early again this morning to get the required GLOBOsoftware programmed and installed. So I did this and everything was fine. I was getting a request if it would be possible to also get the exif data from old uploaded files. So I was searching for a way and found one to get at least exif data on some old pictures.
While installing a table I went to fast and here it comes. I clicked a button on the screen to drop an old table from last night, but the page was not fully loaded so far. I clicked confirm fast (as you have to confirm delete tables. Unfortunatelly due to the fact that the page has not finished loading the button was a bit on the left and not where it was supposed to be. Instead there was the button in place to drop the database completly. It took just 2 seconds and everything was gone :-( With such programms unfortunatelly there is no undo command or similar tool. So there was absolutly no way to reverse that. :-(
After I realised what terrible mistake I made I was doing a quick research to make sure that I am right that this command was unrecoverable. Unfortunatelly I was right. So I diged out the backup from last week and installed the old data. I am so sorry.
As a small insentive we've got now over 1400 old pictures with exif data like for example this one:
http://www.globosapiens.net/janeyee/picture-blue-sky-of-tiana-7227.html
However those are pictures uploads which are a bit old. It is not possible to get exif data on the pictures from the last few years. At least not that easy and I will not touch that thing anymore today nor in the near future!
New picture uploads will contain exif data if they had any before you upload them but this is off topic.
Wow. I have never had something like this my whole live and had never to dig out a backup since GLOBO started (almost 5 years!). At least the time invested to put the backupsystem in place was now worth it.
What can I say. Sorry again.
Andy

You managed very well to minimize the loss, well done Andy! We appreciate every new feature at GLOBO. We all work with computers and understand the risks. While the popular I.T. saying is "never change a running system" we all wish developement and improvements that benifit all :-)
The only members we cannot contact are the new ones that joined this last week, "divingpro67" was so cute, perhaps those email addresses should be saved daily?

For goodness sake stop worrying. What is done is done and can't always be undone. As Rudi says you have minimised the trouble caused. Which of us has never made a mistake?
I'm not religious but that thing about casting the first stone always seems spot on to me.
Cheers

Oh Andi.
I can understand the shock. I just lost all my emails and email addresses by a worm. It was the first time I ever was attacked. But ... as you can't do anything about it stop worrying. It's not the Flood.

Andy,
I like the new camera information. It will be great to see what people are using, and also should encourage authenticity.
I got my report and slideshow back up easily - no problems at all!
Thank you for all the improvements! No pain, no gain, as they say!

You poor thing!!!
Look on the bright side it could have been much worse....
I thought something had happened as I noticed all my guest book postings and latest report not as yet online had disappeared. Easily reloaded though.
Keep smiling :-)
