Travel guide to Antigua Guatemala
Streets of Antigua.
Streets of Antigua.
Antigua Guatemala used to be the capital of Guatemala. It often shortened as Antigua. It is the country's most attractive city and one of the most dramatically located at the foot of a mighty volcano. It is listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site. This relatively small city boast the majority of Guatemala's colonial buildings and one of the largest cathedral in Latin America. Some of the churches have meticulously decorated facades. There are a few monasteries and excellent palaces and grand mansions to explore. The main square is vast and full of shops. Antigua is no stranger to strangers. It houses many language schools and people from around the world come here to learn Spanish. Therefore it is also a great party place and probably the best city in the country for fine dining and accommodation. [edit text]  [editors]
