30 - In the Camino there are paradores's by jorgesanchez

Santiago de Compostela - Spain Paradores means places to stop (parar). They are castles, palaces or monasteries that the Spanish Government converted into hotels and first class restaurants. We have nearly one hundred in the whole of Spain. Along the Camino the most popular are those of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, Leon, Zamora, and Santiago de Compostela. The Parador of Santiago de Compostela, called Reyes Catolicos, was a shelter for pilgrims founded by our Catholic Kings (Isabel de Castilla and Fernando de Aragon), after making themselves the Camino. When it was transformed in a five stars hotel, the Spanish Government decided to maintain the old tradition to feed ten pilgrims every day, three times a day, during three days (totalling nine meals per pilgrim). No money is needed. So, once you finish the Camino you have to show the Compostela, or document stating that you made the Camino, and then you have free entrance in a special and charming dining room for pilgrims. The food is good, generous and free!
