Dissident Andrei Sakharov Museum |

This is an apartment that has become a place of pilgrimage for the pacifist people. You can get there on foot through the central boulevard.
The nuclear physician Andrei Sakharov was confined in this town (called Gorki in Soviet Union times because Maxim Gorki was born there) from 1980 to 1986, until Gorbachov liberated him from his confinement.
Once in Nizhniy Novgorod (not to be confused with the marvellous and historical Novgorod, dating from the V century, between Moscow and Saint Petersburg), do not miss the interesting kremlin, dating from the XIII century.
Sakharov apartment is in the downtown, just follow the pedestrian Bolshaia Pokrovskaia; everybody knows where Sakharov lived. There is even a foundation bearing his name in Moscow.
The building and apartment are nothing spectacular, just a Stalin block, but the fact to arrive there will give you a warm feeling to have visited the former house of a champion of peace.
