Hi Richard,
you will find a lot of shops and restaurants in the Old Town, just stroll along the main street (Hauptstrasse) and have a look into the little side streets. Impressive points with nice views are the castle (Schloss), the Old Bridge (Alte Bruecke), or a view from across the Neckar river towards the Old Town and the castle (from Philosophenweg). It's also a good idea to take the funicular railway up to the Koenigsstuhl (there is a stop for the castle as well): http://www.bergbahn-heidelberg.de/. Hope you'll enjoy your time in Germany! :)
