Since becoming a member of Globosapiens, I have enjoyed sharing photographs and travel articles, reading and viewing the travel adventures and photos of other like-minded people, and enjoying the experiences that can be found on this Earth. However, I am extremely disgusted with many of the photos that have been permitted to be posted in the last two or three months. These are supposed to be photos of our travels and the sites that we have viewed around the world... NOT pictures of our parents, or children, or other such nonsense. There are other sites on the web for that type of photo. Also, it would help if those submitting photos would run the pictures through a photo-editor program before submission. Many of the recent photos could have been interesting, but are so dark and cloudy, or are of such poor quality that the beautiful pictures are ruined.

Hello Bear495,
you are absolutly right. I agree about the quality. Lots of the pictures will be sorted out in the next weeks. Till now I just have not found the time to go over all those new uploaded pictures. It has become increasingly difficult to check all the new content day by day. As for now the member picture rating will keep those pictures mostly hidden. A reminder on all members. Its not about quantity, but quality.
Regards Andy

As we discussed previously, I sometimes wonder about the pictures that are being posted by some of the newer members of globosapiens. One of the new people, vishujoyshe, has posted pictures of family, friends, and neighbors. I am uncertain of the reason or relavance of these. It seems that at least one other member, Mortimer, has also brought this into question and has written more eloquently than I about the pictures. How do we get the message out? I enjoy travel photos, but could care less about someone's personal photos and family photos. --- "Own only what you can carry with you; know language, know countries, know people. Hello bear495,
I must have overlooked that pics today. As the amount of pics grow the member submit each day the problem is raising how to controll all the content. I will think about a system where senior members can flag pictures. Will take a while though. Also a site obout picture quality standards is in work.
Regards,
Andy

Yes im one of the culprits! A lot of my shots were taken by pushing my camera into the hands of a travel companion or even fellow tourists, some auto-exposed. Sometimes I do not even have a camera or film with me on travels, and certainly not endless rolls of film, neither fancy digital equipment (yet). Thanks to the star-system which automatically suppresses unwanted pictures, Ive learnt quickly which type of pictures reach the top of the list. Fighting for my first 5***** picture has shown me how hard it is and what I should not submit and what to do on my next trip. I have also learnt to post my Nat.Geographic type photos under "pictures" to be voted for and those with people in them under "reports" or "travelogs". An already fantastically designed Globosapiens, we must just learn to use it properly. I think that a picture of rating 1* (<1,5) should be automatically removed from the database after being voted as so by, say, 10 members, or immediately if not appropriate to site interests. I think that this website can make some professionals out of us (mostly) amateurs! [ This Message was edited by: rangutan on 2004-09-21 00:07 ] --- Rudolf "Rangutan" Graspointner

... Oh! I must add, a bad picture of a remote, less reported, place is worth 10x more than a middle-rate picture of, say the Grand Canyon or the Matterhorn. [ This Message was edited by: rangutan on 2004-09-21 00:32 ] --- Rudolf "Rangutan" Graspointner

Hi Andy,
Just a thought but why not appoint a moderator to check on the pictures that are being uploaded.
Not only could they delete the family & friends syndrome but could judge if some really bad pics be taken out.
I personally think that some of the ratings given on photos by some members are a bit harsh but if a moderator were appointed they be more objective with the content.
Cheers,
Kerrie

A photo moderator is a perfect idea, perhaps a few moderators. I am all for no family photos, but holiday photos with people or partner or children in it are OK.
Another thing I hate is: title of the photo: e.g. Wicklow (I have been there and think: good I like to see that. then the picture shows a close up of a flower.
