A very good reply Andy!
We are so happy that staff is back from summer break and helping us again. I'm very pleased too that GLOBO uses "BOT" control tools to monitor traffic and activity at GLOBO. Knowing that, takes quite some stress off staff, moderators and also active members. Most important, all will agree that GLOBO = travel = fun
I hope that all members anyway keep an eye out or just note or report; intruders, unpaid advertising, misinformation, wrongly placed material to the databank, extremely bad quality, discriminating/bad language, copyright infringements, banned visual materia, dead links and errors.
Some members rate and comment in glory without even thinking or challenging the authenticity or quality of uploaded material, perhaps to justify there own tresspassess?
Please, members keep up the fun but also keep to rules, contribute, rate and comment from the true inner "traveller" heart, that is never wrong. Doing this mearly from the "gut" sometimes brought difficulties to me, I don't recommend it, a whole community can hate you for it?

There have been a few members saying that I asked them to join Globoapiens and I've never heard of them before. I did report them.

Hello Lyla,
you are misunderstanding the "thank you for recommending letters". Here is a short explanation how that works:
1. Every member has its own user name e.g. myusername
2. Every member also has its own internet adress on GLOBO e.g. http://www.globosapiens.net/myusername
3. If you want to help to spread the word for GLOBO by telling other travelers about GLOBO you can point them directly to your internet adress so they can imediatelly get to your profile.
4. So if somebody follows that link on the internet, or if he types it directly into the browser the system remembers.. hey myusername has spread the word for GLOBO!
5. That person, if he/she signs up within a certain time frame after its initial visit to GLOBOsapiens you do get a referral point which shows up inside your activities page AND you do get one more aditional space for uploading each month. E.g. if you do have a free account you do have 10 pictures per month for uploading (premium members have 100), you will get 11 for each following month, forever. Even if we decide to increase that amount available.
6. There is no association between those 2 members, which is anyhow visible on GLOBOsapiens
7. You do get a e-mail thanking you for recommending GLOBO.
If you do not know those persons, it is possible that they did just follow your link anywhere on the net, which is great!
As this is very much off topic, please open a new topic if you feel that there is more to ask or to discuss.
Best regards,
Andy

I think Andy's point is well taken. There are times when either you or the subject are in motion and it is not going to be a "perfect" photo, but it is interesting or capture the subject well. A 5* has to be a perfect photo, but a 4* can simply be a great subject or something amazingly unique or interesting.
And then there is always the issue of famous subjects where it may be a really good photo but of something that has been shot so much that it is hard to to add anything. I am going through my Taj photos right now, I am reluctant to post very many because I took 30 but most of them look like anyone else's Taj photos. Same thing can be true of Machu Picchu. How do you rate those?
Just my thoughts.

Hi Eire
We discussed the rare/overused matter in a photo rating guidelines discussion some times ago. Then there was the agreement that picutres of rare places are allowed an extra point along this line of thought it's always possible to deduct a point for "overused" scenes or not really travel relatet themes or at least be more strict with quality issues. The 1000th sunset/sunrise picture or the 100th of Tower Bridge is really not so interesting than shots from Gobi desert (i.E.).
The term travel relatedness is quite wide and for everybody not quite the same.
I for instance did only vote one of the latest flower pics by zeca the full ***** technically speaking they are all very well done and worth 5stars but for me they are very beautiful portrait shots of flowers and not really travel pics. They can be interesting to look at and they can show you the local flora but the flora is not so place specific like the caves you showed in your latest set from india. If I want to see the caves I really have to go where you have been, if I want to see the flowers I can go to any neighboring place where the picture has been taken or even to a botanical garden round the corner.
The same, that similar pictures could have been taken in other places too, applies to a lot of other picutres too. There are mountains all over the world, animals can be found in zoo's, beaches look similar wherever there's land and sea, rugged coastlines can be found on every continent. Along this line of thought there is only a limited amount of subjects that are unique it's important to find those.
And it's important for us as we are taking shots and trying to upload them to Globosapiens for everybody else, that we are always thinking why we intended to take the picutre and try to work out a way to show the uniqueness of the place. Try to capture the charm and the feel of the place, try to reproduce what emotions you had when taking the shot.
Sorry I did mention a lot more than you asked for ;-)
have a great day

i've just added this to another part of the forum - but i think the best thing about globo is that all the photos are personable and seem to show a persons affection for where they visit. showing cool new things throughout our planet should be what gets you good ratings.
i know i snap what i like and what will stay with me about my travels.
photos are a point in time - and they shouldnt have to compete. --- "Don't listen to what they say. Go see." ~ Chinese proverb

Might this all be over-thinking it just a bit? Guidelines can be good if one is confused, but in the end we all have different eyes, and we all see things from different perspectives (which is what makes the world so rich in variation and wonderful to explore!). I have read and considered all your proposed guidelines, but in the end I will do what I have always done: look into my heart.
Warmest regards,
Liz
