information about ethiopia  OmoEthiopia
the Desanetch people are living on the south Omo left bank, 25 km away from Turkana Lake (Kenyan border). The village lies among a barren desert.
I was overthrown when shooting this pic..so the black and white result...
Do not give me stars, just fill her jar with tears...

Sorry, I wanted to give 5 stars, this picture truly deserve it. One of the best I have seen from your series

jacko1 - Feb, 03 2009 06:02am
I won't apologise, I gave given this great picture 5stars, but it deserves 6.Well Done, jacko1.

Rafal and Tony: you broke my wish not rating this pix, but it's fine.. ;-) your comments add so much value!

jacko1 - Feb, 03 2009 10:02am
May I just add that using virtual monochrome was a master stroke!, it really accentuated the bleakness of the scene, jacko1.

plancarpin - Feb, 05 2009 07:02am
Thanks Tony.. I just highlighted the ivory (or maybe just bone?) necklace to keep the verticality of the whole pic

horourke - Feb, 12 2009 07:02am
The five stars are for the caption. You have brought us all to realisation in that great poetic cry from the heart. The imagery and philosophy conveyed in four words is beyond description.

Jean-Philippe,
this picture is overwhelming, expressing the loneliness of a woman's life, the dignity, the fight for survival, not asking for compassion.
Hieronyma
PS.: i respect your wish not to rate this picture.

May I add something to my previous comment? This should be on the wall of every bank's boardroom.

aufgehts - Feb, 17 2009 05:02pm
I agree, Tony, but doesn't one have to have compassion and empathy in order to appreciate this photo? I'm not sure that carries over into the boardroom...

jacko1 - Feb, 17 2009 07:02pm
Good point, but if enough people with those qualities make their voices heard maybe there WILL be change.

aufgehts - Feb, 17 2009 07:02pm
Tony, I certainly hope so...I'd like to think of myself as an optomist! Can people really change?

jacko1 - Feb, 17 2009 07:02pm
Jill I firmly believe that evil can only survive if good people do nothing.

plancarpin - Feb, 18 2009 05:02am
Christl, Jill and Tony: thanks friends for your nice comments! I 'm glad that a simple BW pic can move people.
