Nurnberg - Germany, Bayern The 10 day festival just precedes Oktoberfest in Munich and is Germany's largest folklore event with over 1 million visitors. All sorts of musical concerts, a jousting competition, and fireworks are featured. The festival is at least in part a tribute to Hans Sachs, a 16thC singer and playwright and his comedies are also featured.
And then - the food and beer - Hans Sachs Platz and Schutt Island in the Pegnitz are covered with surprisingly substantive restaurants and beer halls with long communal tables. As pictured here, the restaurants all have autumn-based scenes over their entrances.
