Nurnberg - Germany, Bayern The Frauenkirche is Nurnberg's dominant Catholic church at the Hauptmarkt, home of the world famous annual Christmas Market. It was commissioned by HRE Charles IV in 1355 on the site of a synagogue destroyed in an earlier pogrom and designed by Peter Parler ( Prague's St Vitus Cathedral ). Below the steeply angled roof is a Nativity scene surrounding the doorway and a clock with the seven HR Empire electors parading around Charles, in honor of the Golden Bull document which established the elector system and required each new emperor to convene his first congress in Nurnberg ( one of many reasons this city was so important to the heritage Adolf Hitler tried to create for himself ). Year round the Hauptmarkt is filled with kiosks with red and white awnings visible here selling food, crafts, clothing, and remembrances.
